Department of Medical Pathology

The word pathology was formed by combining the Greek word Pathos (disease) and Logos (science). Another way to say, it means “science of disease. In Pathology, changes in living beings in the presence of disease, which can be seen with the eye and microscope, and functional disorders are examined. Our subject is human pathology. Therefore, we examine the changes in the organs, tissues and cells of the human body in case of illness and make a diagnosis in the light of the information accumulated to date. Pathology is divided into six categories: pathological anatomy, histopathology and cytopathology, ultrastructural pathology, histochemical pathology, experimental pathology and forensic pathology.

Department of Medical Pathology has started its educational and scientific activities within the scope of Surgical Medical Sciences at the same time as the foundation our University. In addition to giving general and special theoretical courses in pathology, students' practical studies are carried out with modern and fully equipped laboratories, macroscopic and microscopic broad case series.

In addition to the Faculty of Medicine, the Department also offers pathology courses in the graduate programmes of the Graduate School of Health Sciences.
